Traveling from Tokyo to London was like entering a different world. We got off at Narita after the long flight, and the humidity wrapped around us like a blanket of warmth. The drive to the hotel was smooth, and when we sat down to have dinner, the group was excited; everyone could hardly wait to see Tokyo. The city skyline glowed in the distance, full of promise of adventure.
Our third day was packed, starting with a guided tour of Tokyo's highlights. The Skytree was like a giant needle hanging over the city, but Asakusa's Sensoji Temple reminded us of its earthly roots in its peaceful, incense-filled atmosphere. Nakamise Street was a big maze of tiny shops, selling different kinds of trinkets and sticky snacks. We sailed down the Sumida River, watching as the city passed by slowly, and topped it off with a visit to Odaiba Island, a high-tech entertainment hub. Mighty looking Rainbow Bridge glowed like a war armor under the setting sun, illuminating the bay in a bright golden light.
Boarding the cruise ship was a break from the pace, diving off the chaos of Tokyo and sailing to quieter ports. Shimizu greeted us with grey skies, but we caught a glimpse of Mount Fuji in the mist. At Hakone, the serene waters of Lake Ashi gave us a break. Each harbor has its story to tell Kyoto's ropeway gardens, Jeju's lava cave, and Nagoya and Beppu's peaceful spots. It is a journey of contrasts: urban chaos, peace, and a perpetual rhythm of the sea in between.
